Bojnice is one of those castles in Slovakia in better shape. It has a relatively big ZOO definitely worthwhile visiting. Unfortunately it was winter when I took these pictures. Most of the animals were inside off limits to my camera.

This time at last! The last time I was in Bojnice I was too late for a guided tour inside the castle. This time I arrived just in time to be allowed inside. They make season programmes - Ghost festival in summer and Christmas festival in winter. The tour inside the castle is most definitely something worth taking.

The only petrochemical refinery in Slovakia. Located on the outskirts of Bratislava it illuminates the nightly skies. Forget the environmental impacts and enjoy the illuminations.

A memorial erected during the communism years to commemorate the events of the Slovak national uprising back in 1944 when the Slovak forces, alongside with Russian and French (and a minority of others) tried to push back German occupation forces.

Christkindlmarkt, a.k.a. The Christmas Market in Vienna. Enchanting place, especially in the evening or at night. Lots of people, all sorts of mulled wine and sweets.

A friend of mine from Down Under showed up in Bratislava. After having been promising this for the past 10 years! We had a nice weekend at the country house. The very first day we went to see the Castle of Bratislava. Not too many pictures I know.

Undertook a trip this summer (2005). First to Gabcikovo where there is a river dam (with a lock for boats and ships) and electric turbines too. Lots of concrete. From there to Vienna. A nice but expensive place to live.

Not too far away from the countryhouse there is another lake. Right at the border to Austria. This is what they had when I drove by. Who could resist those heaps of people enjoying themselves?

This is my friend's place, as seen in some earlier albums on this site. Recently he had built a new fireplace for his gazebo in the garden. Not only one can prepare all sorts of delicious dishes but it also serves as an excellent heating source for us when it is cold and the snow falls down just as the last time.
